HOW TO GET STARTED
How To Get Started

Ready to start your career in the skilled trades? Here are the essential steps to help you get started with an apprenticeship.

Prepare for an Apprenticeship

There are multiple pathways to begin an apprenticeship, each offering valuable learning experiences. Your preparation will depend on your current situation.

For High School Students

Students interested in the trades can start early by enrolling in trades-related courses and participating in job skills programs, such as the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, Specialist High Skills Major Program, Co-operative Education Program, the Focused Apprenticeship Skills Training and more. To help explore your options, connect with your local guidance counsellor.

For Individuals 18+ Years of Age

If you're 18+ and interested in an apprenticeship, explore options like applying to pre-apprenticeships, attending job fairs, or using online databases. Vocational schools and employer-sponsored programs can also help you get started.
